Community supports Moodle

One of the secrets to success in adopting open source is to pick projects that have an active and committed development community behind them.

The Moodle e-learning project, for example, has really taken hold in some 150 countries, including New Zealand. This is due in part to the low barrier to entry and innovation presented by open source software, but equally to the developers supporting the software.

For a country of New Zealand's size, collaboration through open source makes far more sense than competition, particularly in established communities such as those in the education sector. Dozens of organisations have adopted Moodle in New Zealand and many of them are being supported by Catalyst.

Picking the right technology partner is significant success factor for open source adopters. A company like Catalyst, with some 9 years experience with open source technology, have proven time and again how OSS can be successfully deployed in both the private and public sectors.
