Moodle Educator Qualification (MEQ)
Who is it for?
If you design and deliver Moodle courses, the MEQ will help you create engaging, high-impact learning experiences using best-practice pedagogy.
Why choose MEQ?
- Gain a deeper understanding of Moodle’s teaching tools.
- Learn how to create more engaging and interactive courses.
- Receive a globally recognised certification that enhances your credibility.
Course Structure
MEQ is based on the European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators (DigCompEdu) and covers:
- Digital Resources – Selecting, creating, and managing learning content.
- Teaching & Learning – Using Moodle to enhance collaboration and student engagement.
- Assessment – Designing effective feedback and evaluation strategies.
Many educators focus on content delivery but don’t use Moodle’s engagement tools effectively. One quick win? Use structured forums, class glossaries and interactive H5P content to make your courses more dynamic. MEQ helps you reflect on your own professional practice to create high-quality and engaging learning experiences

Moodle Certified Facilitator | Learning Design Specialist
19 years’ experience with Moodle | 7 years at Catalyst IT Europe
Sam first encountered Moodle as a lecturer at Salisbury College in 2006, where Moodle was used both as an intranet and a platform for sharing resources with adult learners. Since joining Catalyst IT Europe, Sam has become the main course creator for Catalyst’s own Moodle-based CPD platform and acts as a consultant to clients looking to enhance their content development. Sam is an Advanced HE Fellow, a Certified Member of the Association of Learning Technologists (CMALT), and holds postgraduate qualifications in teaching and blended learning. A certified MEQ holder and facilitator since 2020, Sam’s approach to supporting MEQ and MAQ learners is practical and encouraging:
I always share tips and tricks to help candidates pass the first time, and I use Moodle’s annotation tools during grading to highlight where learners are excelling, as well as where they can improve. My advice? Be creative with your assignments, and don’t be afraid to push Moodle’s capabilities to achieve great learning outcomes.
Lenka Kolesarova

Lenka’s Moodle journey began with version 1.9 while finishing her degree at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, where she supported professors in digitising learning materials and developing blended courses. Her inquisitive nature quickly earned her a place on the university’s eLearning support team.
Since moving to the UK and joining Catalyst IT Europe, Lenka has supported Moodle administrators worldwide, solving complex configuration issues and helping developers debug and optimise Moodle environments. Over her 11 years at Catalyst, she has administered hundreds of Moodle sites, gaining an unrivalled breadth of experience.
Lenka holds both the Moodle Administrator Qualification (MAQ) and is a certified MAQ facilitator, with a unique insight into Moodle’s technical best practices. Her approach to supporting learners is both strategic and supportive:
I guide learners on how best to prepare for the knowledge quizzes, which are challenging but achievable with the right preparation. For the practical exercises, we offer flexible options to work safely without impacting your live environments. My advice? Dedicate long, focused sessions to each course and tackle the knowledge quizzes while everything is fresh in your mind. It makes all the difference.
